With more than 7 million contracts, Schwäbisch Hall is the largest German building society and the leading provider of construction financing in Germany. The Group is gradually modernizing its headquarters in Schwäbisch Hall, Baden-Württemberg. Around 3,700 employees work there.
The Group's building strategy, which was adopted in 2019, provides for sustainable, energy-efficient and comprehensive modernization. The aim is to create modern, activity-based working environments. A first milestone was the move into Project House H in summer 2024. combine has been supporting the Schwäbisch Hall Group in the development of a strategic office concept since the beginning of the planning phase, providing support in space management and accompanying the change process.
Working environments that meet the requirements of a mobile and agile working world.
In June 2024, the completely renovated Project House H was reopened after three years of refurbishment. During the refurbishment, employees were housed in a temporary alternative space, which combine also planned and implemented. The first stage of the refurbishment was successfully completed when the 600 or so employees moved back in, and the new working environments are being used extensively for the first time. The employees were able to help shape the change process right from the start.

The Campus office concept is based on three cornerstones:
- Diverse spatial solutions for teamwork, individual work, projects, knowledge sharing, meetings and breaks that focus on the respective activity.
- Fixed location of teams/areas/projects (“home port”) and free choice of seating for employees depending on their activity (“free seating”).
- Dissolution of the fixed assignment of workstations. The clean desk principle minimizes set-up times: The workstation is left clean at the end of the working day.
The office and space utilization concept “Arbeitswelt Schwäbisch Hall” is based on the “Zielbild 2025 - unsere Vision zum Arbeiten der Zukunft”. It can be implemented in a modular and user-independent way and formed the basis for the planning of Building H. The concept defines space and furniture concepts (“Bricks”), IT infrastructure (“Bytes”) and the cornerstones of a modern office culture (“Behavior”). It was also used for an interior design competition.
Together with the project team, rules for “Free Seating” were developed to create ideal working environments. The project team remains in contact with users in order to optimize the office usage concept. The “Establishing trust and commitment” roadmap supports BSH's new office and collaboration culture and the “Campus@Work” core team in their project work.

The specialists of the future also appreciate an open and communicative environment. The concept is gradually being extended to other parts of the building. The “Processing” area with over 1,000 employees is currently being reorganized in close cooperation with the department heads and user representatives.
In future, home ports with free seating will be set up for all units on the existing campus. Here, too, employees can participate in the development process, with a focus on activity-oriented work in agile environments.
