Internet service provider Strato AG, a United Internet company, leased about 14,000 m2 of new office space at DSTRCT.Berlin. The staff of about 850 people moved in during the spring of 2022.

Thoughtful lighting design
and islands of green.

DSTRCT.Berlin is a new two-part office complex built in the former Schlachthof area of Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district. One part is a new office building, while the other comprises several revitalized historic brick industrial buildings.

Der Neubau, in dem u. a. das United Internet-Unternehmen STRATO Flächen anmietet, hat eine Größe von rund 41.000 m2 (BGF) und verfügt über ein großzügiges Raumgefühl, ein ausgeklügeltes Lichtdesign und grüne Oasen für ein gesundes Arbeitsklima.

Floor-to-ceiling windows bring bright natural light into the spacious offices, and the office floors are equipped with numerous seating options, meeting rooms, and co-working stations.

Workshop processes and employee survey

combine worked closely with the future users of the new office space to craft a design concept to meet the requirements

With an employee survey as a jumping-off point, several workshops were held with a focus group to identify the right atmosphere for the new space. The concept that emerged reflects the diverse workforce and their desire to play a role in shaping their space while also embodying a close connection to Berlin itself.

Berlin roots.

The creative focus is on the common areas and communication zones. As varied as the U-Bahn subway stations in Berlin, these standout spaces trace a line through the building, just as the subway unites the city. They feature a common design framework, but in different forms, and the large-area grid structure in particular means each one can be adjusted individually.

The spaces change as people come and go over time, just as Berlin’s residents make their mark on the city. This means moving in does not mark the end of the interior architecture concept. Instead, that is when it comes to life, thanks to the people who work there.
